For over two decades, Richie Hawtin has been influencing the growth of Detroit techno’s second wave and laid the foundation for the growth of minimal techno. Known for performances that incorporate an impressive armada of laptop computers and gear, Richie brings an element of technical skill and live performance that remains unrivaled in the scene — qualities that awarded him an Honorary Doctorate of Music Technology by the University of Huddersfield in 2015.
Under aliases that include Plastikman, F.U.S.E, and more, Hawtin has consistently landed at the top of DJ rankings, earning countless nominations and awards for his mixes and releases on his own Plus 8 record label, M-nus, and NovaMute. Known for an atmospheric style that twists driving techno beats with often abstract acid riffs, Hawtin’s minimal sound has stood the test of time, continuing to inspire and shape modern electronic music.
Since 2012 Hawtin has blended his love of sake and Japanese culture with his passion for techno, breathing life into “ENTER.” — a series of summer events at Space in Ibiza, complete with its own brand of sake, five experiential rooms, and electronic music.
